The exhibition „Hilfskonstruktionen“ (engl.: auxiliary constructions) examines the relationship between politics and aesthetics in relation to a formal metaphor – the line. The line refers to various aspects. It establishes a connection between two selected points and describes thus the development of a two-dimensional space; it produces the boundaries and outlines of an object and starts to shape a relation between points, between objects. The line is also a space where giving shape and constituting a meaning meet, a space where formal and visual demarcations form signification. The line interlaces formal abstraction with the production of content.
The planned exhibition explores these interlacing moments through various graphic, cinematic,
sculptural and performative reflections. The thematic emphases vary between the recourse to body language, language, affect, geopgraphies, memory or art history – the artistic positions share, that they critically determine and question the relationship between form and content in terms of its aesthetic, social and political significance.
